In verses 8, 9, and 10 the phrase "if we" begins a hypothetical situation that could possibly happen. (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-hypo)

have no sin
"never sin" or "have never sinned" (UDB)
deceive
"trick" or "fool"
the truth is not in us
"we do not believe what he said is true"

These words refer to God.
faithful and righteous
"loyal and good"
to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
These two phrases mean basically the same thing. John uses them to emphasize that God will surely forgive our sins. AT: "and will completely forgive us of what we have done wrong." (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-parallelism)
we make him a liar
"it is the same as calling him a liar, because he said we have all sinned." The phrase "because he said we have all sinned" is implicit. (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-explicit)
his word is not in us
This can be translated "we do not understand or obey what he says."
