# Seven (symbol)
In the Bible, the number seven is often a symbol of being perfect, being complete, or being full.
Many numbers in the Bible are not symbols of something else. However, some numbers in the Bible are symbols of something else. A person can examine the rest of the words around these numbers in the Bible. This usually helps the person know if a number is a symbol of something else.

#### More Information About This Topic
The Hebrew word for seven comes from a word that means “full,” “satisfied,” or “having enough.” On the seventh day, God finished creating things (see: Genesis 2:2-3). The number seven is used many times in the Old Testament to be a symbol of something that is completed or finished (see: Leviticus 4:6; 25:8; 26:18; Joshua 6:15).
In the New Testament, Peter asked Jesus how many times Peter needed to forgive someone. Jesus said that Peter needed to forgive a person seventy times seven (see: Matthew 18:21-22). Jesus was telling Peter to always forgive someone.
The number seven is also used in Revelation many times to be a symbol. For example, the words “the seven spirits of God” are used to be a symbol of the full power of the Holy Spirit (see: Revelation 3:1; 4:5).
