# Wedding

A wedding is an event where a man and woman are married. In New Testament times, people usually had a large meal together to celebrate a marriage. This meal was called the “wedding feast.” The feast could be for several days.

||
The words “wedding” and “wedding feast” are used in the Bible as metaphors. They are used to talk about God’s people living in happiness with God (see: Isaiah 25:6, 8; Hosea 2:16-19; Matthew 22:1-14). Paul used the word “marriage” as a metaphor to talk about Christians living with Jesus forever (see: 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:25-32). John wrote about the wedding feast of the Lamb (see: Revelation 19:7-9; 21:2, 9). This was a way of talking about Christians celebrating and living with Jesus forever. This will happen after Jesus defeats Satan (see: Revelation 21:1-4; 22:1-5).
