This is the end of the part of the story that began in [Matthew 2:1](./01.md) about Herod's attempt to kill the new King of the Jews.

# But when he heard
"But when Joseph heard"
# Archelaus
This is the name of Herod's son. (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/translate-names]])
# he was afraid
"Joseph was afraid"
# what had been spoken through the prophets
This can be stated in active form. AT: "what the Lord spoke long ago through the prophets" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-activepassive]])
# he would be called a Nazarene
Here "he" refers to Jesus. The prophets before the time of Jesus would have referred to him as the Messiah or the Christ. AT: "people would say that the Christ is a Nazarene" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/translate-names]])
