# Canaan (Promised Land)
God made a covenant with Abraham. In this covenant, God promised to give Abraham the land of Canaan. He also promised to give this land to Abraham’s descendants. He said they would live there forever (see: Genesis 12:6-7; 15:18-21; 17:8; 22:17). The land was called “Israel” after the Israelites started living there. “Promised land” are words people use to talk about this land. However, these words are not in the Bible.

Scholars do not agree about the exact location of this land. Some scholars think the land is modern Israel and Lebanon. Other scholars think the promised land is the land of modern countries of Jordan, and parts of Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
