The word “image” is used to talk about something that looks like something or someone else. It is an image when people draw or carve someone or something onto coins and other things (see: Matthew 22:19-22).

In the Bible, people used wood or metal to make an image of a person, animal, or thing. Then, people would worship the image (see: Exodus 32:8; Acts 7:43; see also: Romans 1:22-23). These images are also called “idols” and “false gods.” God commanded his people not to worship these images or idols (see: Exodus 20:4-6; Acts 17:29; 1 Corinthians 10:14).
