The words “sexual immorality” are used to talk about all sexual activity that God taught was wrong. Older English Bible versions call this "fornication." This includes sexual acts such as:
* Prostitution: a person being payed to have sex with someone, often as an act of worship to false gods (see: Deuteronomy 23:17-18; 1 Corinthians 6:15-20)
The Bible also uses “sexual immorality” as a metaphor to talk about the people of God worshiping false gods. When God’s people worshiped idols, it was as if they committed adultery against God (see: Ezekiel 6:9), or as if they were prostitutes (see: Hosea 4:12).
