# Word of God
In the Bible, "word of God" is used to talk about anything that God has told people. When someone speaks or writes something for God, this is the “word of God.” This is also called the “word of Yahweh” or “the word of the Lord.” The written word of God is sometimes called “scriptures” (see: Matthew 21:42; 2 Timothy 3:16). The word “scriptures” in the New Testament is used to talk about the Hebrew scriptures. That is the Old Testament.
The word of God is also called the the “word of truth” (see: 2 Timothy 2:15; James 1:18) and “word of life” (see: Philippians 2:16; 1 John 1:1). What God says is always true. Those who believe what God says will live forever with him.
In the New Testament, Jesus is called "the Word" and "the Word of God" (see: John 1:1, 14; Revelation 19:13). He is called this because he allows others to know God. This is because he is God himself.
