## Should I hide from Abraham what I am about to do ##
2017-06-21 20:45:09 +00:00
God used this rhetorical question to say that he was going to talk to Abraham about something very important. "I will not hide from Abraham what I am about to do" or "I will tell Abraham what I am about to do." (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-rquestion]])
## since Abraham will indeed become ##
This tells why God planned to tell Abraham what he was going to do. It can be translated as a separate sentence after the rhetorical question.
## all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him ##
This can be translated with an active clause: "I will bless all the nations of the earth through Abraham." (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-activepassive]])
## will be blessed in him ##
This can be translated as "will be blessed because of Abraham" or "will be blessed because I have blessed Abraham." For translating "in him" see how you translated "through you" in [Genesis 12:1](../12/01.md).
## that he may instruct ##
"that he will direct" or "so that he will command"
## to keep the way of Yahweh ##
"to obey what Yahweh requires." God was speaking about himself. It can also be translated as "to keep my way."
## to do righteousness and justice ##
This tells how they were do keep the way of Yahweh. It can be translated as "by doing righteousness and justice."
## so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham what he has said to him ##
This refers to the covenant promise to bless Abraham and make him a great nation. If you need to state this more clearly, you could translate it as "so that Yahweh may bless Abraham just as he said he would."
