## the heavens ##

This can be translated as "By the seventh day God had come to the end of his work." God did not work at all on the seventh day.

## he rested on the seventh day from all his work ##

This can be translated "on that day he stopped working" or "on that day he did not work."

## God blessed the seventh day ##

This could mean 1) "God caused the seventh day to produce good results" or 2) "God said that the seventh day was good."

## and sanctified it ##

This can be translated as "and set it apart" or "and called it his own."

## in it he rested from all his work ##

This could be translated "on it he did not work."
